An Interview with a Rap Star

So this past spring I hollered at Young Money's newest weapon Drake. At the time he was still kind of flying under the American radar, but instead of me scooping niggas I kind of just let it sit around. Since Dedication 3 came out his stock has skyrocketed, and to think I thought it was gonna be him or Ryan Leslie. Idk why I haven't done anythin with yet so i felt like maybe i should blog it up enjoy.

Merls: There have been countless rappers that made the move to acting, but you rarely see the inverse I think you’re the first to do it since Brian Austin Green, how has your acting career affected your music career.

Drake: My acting hasn’t really affected my music in a negative way. They are two completely different entities so I have a differentiation between them. If anything acting has helped draw more fans to my music. I do use my middle name Drake to help distinguish me from Aubrey Graham the actor though. It also allows listeners to give me a far shot and not just write my music off.

M: I’ve been checking out Canadian Hip-Hop ever since I found out about Much Music back in like 01’ In fact I still bang “Northern Touch” like once a week. I can never understand why Canadian Artist don’t get big press in the states, do you think that’s more on our part not checkin’ for the Maple Leaf Heat or yours not really stressing U.S. success?

D: Honestly, it’s probably a mix of both. If you don’t know about something than your probably not gonna be looking for it. The crossover comes from people who take the time to search out the Canadian MC’s and spread the word. It only takes one person to change the world and the same goes for music. If one Canadian Artist makes it, it will be easier for others to crossover.

M: You’ve been doing your thing Independent for a minute now, do you have any desire to go major?

D: I have a desire to do it but I won’t just do it to do it. I want it to be the right time for me and the right decision. It’s not all about the money; it’s about the art and the passion I have for my talents

M: You work for a kid’s network, but you spit for the grown folks. Have you caught any heat from the focus groups or Exec.’s?

D: No, I haven’t. They are pretty cool about the whole thing. Like I said before they are two completely different entities and I’m free to express myself in any way that makes me happy.

M: Do people run up on you in the street like ““Yo I thought this nigga was in a wheelchair?”

D: It’s happened to me once or twice. For the most part people know it’s just the character that I play.

M: What’s the craziest thing a fan’’s done to get at you.

D: The craziest thing would be a girl asking me to sign her breasts

M: I was just on your page and I was wondering is that Jackie long from ATL on “Overdose”? By the way your killin em on myspace right now how does all the love feel?

D: No, that is not Jackie Long. It feels great to get all that love. It just shows me everyday that I’m not the only one who believes in my talents.

M: Is there anybody in the game besides yourself that we should be checkin for?

Yeah so the skins got spanked last night and that's fine and dandy, I hate to say it but I had a feeling it was gonna go down like this. In the latest of many NBA Live-esque moves being made around the league, the Detroit Pistons send Chauncey Billups and Antonio McDyess to the NugNugs in exchange for the Question, the Answer: Nobody cares cuz' neither team is gonna get a ring from it. The Singletary Effect

To beat the pants off a man has never been taken so literally. As most of you have heard newly appointed 49ers head coach Mike Singletary was so heated during his halftime speach of last weeks game against the seahawks he dropped his trousers and told his troops they were playing like ass. To most in the non-athlete community this may come as a shock, the rest of us see it as another great moment in "coach implosion history". If you've played team sports for a while there's no doubt in my mind you had a coach that didn't just love the game, they stalked it even though the game already filed a restraining order. I got a few coach breakdown stories i could tell but my personal fav was Coach Roadpcap halftime speech @ hylton. Now mind you this was thier homecoming game and they had a few D1 prospects such as Penn State's Deon Butler so it goes without saying that we got dogged. We go in and halftime and Roadcap goes balistic, I don't remember the whole tirade but at one point he shouts "You guys are playing like your pee-pees are THIS BIG" and then he throws up the international small penis sign. I immediately turn to my boy E Hayes and we're both doing are best not to crack up.

Lost My Soul In the Tower

I started playing video games again. I'd have to say there's like a handfull of games that frustrate me to the point where I'd actually propose to them jonts if they were real people. Tops on the list is definately Soul Calibur IV more specifically The tower of lost souls, that shit is the mad notes. I know I'm somewhere in the 40's but I let my boy hold my gem and it's been a while since I peeped game. Cassandra's nice yada yada yada. Line of the Week

It's only wednesday but here's an early candidate. "I ball at all cost/the .45 pop eyes so y'all all can get boss sauced" now when you break that down, that's a pretty serious little 2 peice (no pun intended) though there are some serious flaws, i mean i've never shot a .45 so I couldn't go national 50 cent might find or sumthin, but i have gone to jail so maybe there's a counter balance?

I was pretty bummed out last night, we were mid-session last night and i was flipping stations and thats when i found out there was no more Smooth jazz 105.9. And they replaced it with an oldies station. I don't know how anyone else feels but i'm hurt. 105.9 has been in my rotation ever since i knew what cars were, the only station where i actually wanted to hear the commericals. i feel lost

I was on the reebok website because Taurean told me they had something comprable to Nike ID. But that wasn't the best part at all, while on said website I saw that Scarlett Johannson has an endorsment deal with reebok. Don't get me wrong she's bad in the best way but i don't understand why Reebok keeps giving deals to Non-Athletes. Like everybody's sittin on their hands waiting for a new pair of G-unit's or S.Carters for that matter. I don't know man all i'm sayin is you gotta leave the kicks to the proper authorities.

The past week

Yea so i haven't posted in a few days, mainly becuase Devil May Cry 4 has taken control of my life. Before this shit came out niggas was lookin at me like i was crazy, maybe cuz' i've been waitin for this since November and shit son IT"S fuckin bonkers. even though they have some bullshit camera views and what not.



Also i picked up big media over the weekend, the Shaolin's Finest cd, Big Labowski on dvd even though my DvD player is broken appearently. it's all good though cuz i'm bout to scoop a new media center in the coming weeks

Earlier today former Rookie of the Year Pau Gasol was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers for current Suck Ass Nigga of the Year Kwame Brown. The Grizzlies got some draft pick and shit out of the deal but what the hell are they thinking? Everybody who's ever seen a basketball game in their life know Kwame Brown is some cut. Well actually when you take a step back and look at it maybe this move is genius becuase Mr brown could go down in history as the best trade bait in NBA history. Check it out, the Wizards got Caron Butler for Kwame and now the Lakers get Pau, thats fuckin crazy. I mean i was Kwame Brown the best, and i hope he gets his shit off but I know it ain't happenin.

This one is kind of like a part 2 to my last blog. I was watching this documentary on the 2005 Wakefield Basketball team and with this Len Bias movie coming out it got me to thinking why not Potomac? I really don't have a concept together yet but I think a Potomac sports film might be good shit. No I'm not talkin about Potomac out in Maryland and you know damn well I'm not talkin about suck-ass Potomac Falls. Len Bias

I'm at the crib watching the UVA-Maryland game and i was really shocked that they gave Maryland primetime. I always felt like they were a team worth watching but for the past couple years you could bearly find these niggas on ESPN+. I guess all it takes is one big win at North Carolina and everybody gets on your dick. For all those who never watch this guys be on the lookout in March, they're pretty deep and Vasquez and Hayes (Potomac grad) are a problem in the backcourt. I hope they rock their alternate yellow jerseys come tournament time

I was rappin with my boy Andy the other day and we got to talkin about the unaccpected death of Heath Ledger, and i was like damn that's tragic, 10 things I Hate about you was nice (no homo), yada yada. Then he tells me that Mr. Ledger was hanging out with the Olsen Twins. At that moment I saw everything clearly. The Olsen Twins are like the Allen Iverson and Carmello Anthony of drug use. Think about it, why is Heath dead and they aren't? Foul play perhaps? Naahhh not even homeboy thought he could stomp with the big dogs and he got ran it's as simple as that. Niggas don't understand how crazy drugs are, you really got to be on your shit to use coke and stuff man, I mean you wouldn't play football if you did have the skills right? Exactly, and appearentlly these Olsen's are like 1st round draft picks. Speaking of which how bout Ike Turner? This motherfucker was 77 years old and died of a cocaine overdose MAN. First Post, How bout It?

Anybody who knows me knows that I'm a Capcom freak and with Devil May Cry 4 coming out next week and Resident Evil 5 AND Street Fighter IV coming sometime this year my status hasn't changed. Seriously these niggas could make a game about peeing in your pants as long as that yellow and blue jump-off was on the box I'm pre-ordering. Which leads me to this, how come nobody plays Street Fighter III: Third Strike? The shit goes hard and I can't find anybody to run with me. Everybody knows Street Fighter II and Street Fighter II Tournament Edition, and Super Street Fighter II and Street Fighter II Turbo and Hyper Street Fighter II and Street Fighter II After Dark and Street Fighter II Special Victims Unit and whatever the fuck else Street Fighter II they came out with, but no Third Strike. Don't get me wrong they're all bangers but I think the new shit gets disrespected. I really don't even know why i'm posting this cuz' it's not like anyone's gonna start playing it with cats like Lupe and the Cool kids dropping their respective SF II bars, in fact I think everybody with a pair of dunks went out and bought a Sega after they heard The Cool. Alls i'm saying is dust off your PS2 find a copy of the Street Fighter Anniversary Disk and give it a whirl. At the very least you'll enjoy the soundtrack, I swear everytime I hear house music I wanna dragon uppercut somebody in the face now.
