So this past spring I hollered at Young Money's newest weapon Drake. At the time he was still kind of flying under the American radar, but instead of me scooping niggas I kind of just let it sit around. Since Dedication 3 came out his stock has skyrocketed, and to think I thought it was gonna be him or Ryan Leslie. Idk why I haven't done anythin with yet so i felt like maybe i should blog it up enjoy.
Merls: There have been countless rappers that made the move to acting, but you rarely see the inverse I think you’re the first to do it since Brian Austin Green, how has your acting career affected your music career.
Drake: My acting hasn’t really affected my music in a negative way. They are two completely different entities so I have a differentiation between them. If anything acting has helped draw more fans to my music. I do use my middle name Drake to help distinguish me from Aubrey Graham the actor though. It also allows listeners to give me a far shot and not just write my music off.
M: I’ve been checking out Canadian Hip-Hop ever since I found out about Much Music back in like 01’ In fact I still bang “Northern Touch” like once a week. I can never understand why Canadian Artist don’t get big press in the states, do you think that’s more on our part not checkin’ for the Maple Leaf Heat or yours not really stressing U.S. success?
D: Honestly, it’s probably a mix of both. If you don’t know about something than your probably not gonna be looking for it. The crossover comes from people who take the time to search out the Canadian MC’s and spread the word. It only takes one person to change the world and the same goes for music. If one Canadian Artist makes it, it will be easier for others to crossover.
M: You’ve been doing your thing Independent for a minute now, do you have any desire to go major?
D: I have a desire to do it but I won’t just do it to do it. I want it to be the right time for me and the right decision. It’s not all about the money; it’s about the art and the passion I have for my talents
M: You work for a kid’s network, but you spit for the grown folks. Have you caught any heat from the focus groups or Exec.’s?
D: No, I haven’t. They are pretty cool about the whole thing. Like I said before they are two completely different entities and I’m free to express myself in any way that makes me happy.
M: Do people run up on you in the street like ““Yo I thought this nigga was in a wheelchair?”
D: It’s happened to me once or twice. For the most part people know it’s just the character that I play.
M: What’s the craziest thing a fan’’s done to get at you.
D: The craziest thing would be a girl asking me to sign her breasts
M: I was just on your page and I was wondering is that Jackie long from ATL on “Overdose”? By the way your killin em on myspace right now how does all the love feel?
D: No, that is not Jackie Long. It feels great to get all that love. It just shows me everyday that I’m not the only one who believes in my talents.
M: Is there anybody in the game besides yourself that we should be checkin for?

D: Today I listened to Dream, Gym Class Heroes, Lupe and of course some Hova
M: I’ve been trying to go to Toronto and Van City for like half a decade and I’m finally planning a trip 1. Give me a couple hype night spots 2. What’s the best mall 3. Do they sell Dutches up there?
D: Dutches- yes
